On Monday June 1st, we’re migrating to a new library network and management system. We are moving from CW/Mars to HELM, a consortium of twelve Massachusetts community college libraries including HCC, Middlesex, Mass Bay, and STTC, as well as MCLA. This access to like-minded institutions allows our community of students, faculty and staff to acquire materials that are uncommon for public libraries in the CW/Mars system to carry. Once the Library is physically open again, you will be able to place holds for materials. The new HELM interface is also more "academic library" friendly, with features that will make creating lists and bibliographies easier.
We expect there to be a few bumps over the next week as we migrate databases and test the system. At times some databases may be down, and not all links in our LibGuides will be functional until mid-June, especially those to the Credo modules. Please be patient while we update our many links.
The first thing you will notice after June 1st is the new login. While the login remains the same for faculty and staff, it is different for students. We are updating our instructional tutorials as we migrate to this new system, so check back.
While we are not lending books until the library reopens, due to the COVID restrictions, you might want to try out the new catalog. Simply click Books under the phrase Find It on the BCC Library webpage at https://www.berkshirecc.edu/library.
Here is what the new catalog looks like. A simple keyword search of Shakespeare pulls up a list of our records. If a book is available, it will be noted on the record, as will the call number, the location where the book is located on our ground floor. You can narrow your search by scrolling down and adding a filter, such a subtopic like Drama, or choosing a medium such as book or DVD. You can also search by author, title, subject and more.
You can also Log into your account at any time and see if you have any books out. As with our old system, CW/Mars, you will be able to place Holds, once the State-wide Hold system is running again. The Advanced Search has even more features, such as a guided boolean search.
Feel free to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org if you experience any problems or have questions. Karen and Andrea are here to help connect you with the information you need during this period of transition. If you have any questions regarding circulation, your old account with CW/Mars, or your library card number, contact circulation at email@example.com.
Check back later in the summer to this page to learn about searching the HELM catalog and circulation updates.
